Mixed Media Class

Finished this painting the other day...
Copyright 2013 Lacey Lemmert
I had started working on it during the Mixed Media Class for demonstration purposes and was pretty excited with where it was going so I spent the whole next day working on it too :) Now if I could only finish the larger more involved painting that I've been working on for months...

New Items: March 2013

We have a few new pieces done that we've been working long and hard on. Of course everything is always much more difficult than you expect it to be, but maybe that makes it more rewarding to finish? :) Mom has been doing some awesome pieces with antique door knobs and repurposed furniture pieces that I just love. I've been working on a monstrosity of a dresser, the mirror is so large I think it would make any room look twice as big as it really is! But I'm pretty happy with how it turned out and I love the nightstand that goes with it.

Our DIY this month is a cute shamrock wreath inspired by this one by Brittany Watson Jepsen. I just gathered together different green print and plain green cardstock papers, cut out shamrocks in various shapes and sizes, folded the leaves in half a little to make them more 3D, and glued them onto an embroidery hoop with PVA glue. For a pattern, just click on the link to the shamrock shapes I drew: shamrock pattern
We hope you have a wonderful rest of the month! In honor of St. Pat's Day and spring, mention our newsletter and receive 10% off anything green in the store for the rest of March!

Industrial Grunge

We are pretty excited about a bunch of new items in the shop. These heavy duty pieces are so functional, but stylish and unique at the same time. I know there are not a lot of (any that I know of?) industrial loft spaces around here, but these would be great for a trendy family room or office/creative space. Or dare I say it, maybe in the man cave? Naa, these are too cool to hide in my husband's basement hangout. :)

Industrial Army trunk turned coffee table

Organizer for creative ideas and magazines with chalkboard for notes

Heavy duty creative grunge file cabinet

Metal sculptural art

Faucet knob vintage ruler coat hanger

So fun! And a we have a few more industrial pieces in the works too!

Our DIY this month is on how to make simple coffee filter flowers that have a very vintage romantic look. We bought two sizes of coffee filters, a small and a large. We boiled some water and added instant coffee. We soaked some of the filters in that, wrung them out and laid them out flat to dry. Then we boiled more water and added red food coloring to soak them in. We put quite a bit in, and of course the more red food coloring the darker pink they will be. It's also fun to mix the coffee and food coloring together for some lighter dirtier pinks. We had about 4 different colors all together. Next we simply glued them together in the middle. We did 3 layers for each flower. Smaller ones in front and crinkled up by loosely folding them in half twice before gluing the bottom of that to the middle of your other layers. They can be great for wall or table decorations, or to glue all around a wreath. Simple, but sweet. :)
