Our DIY this month is a great way to repurpose old metal TV trays. Just give the tray a fresh coat of paint (for regular paint, spray paint adheres great), drill two holes in the top, and string a pretty ribbon through for a magnetic message board. For this board, I used chalkboard paint so that messages can be both written on the tray and stuck on with magnets. Usually, brush on chalkboard paint is more durable than spray on chalkboard paint and will still adhere well to metal. To drill the holes, you'll want a high powered drill and a fairly large bit (I used a 3/8 inch bit). Just measure equal distances from each side and mark it with a pencil. Then drill holes where your marks are. If you don't have a drill, find a large nail and hammer it through the tray to create your holes. String your ribbon through and tie a pretty bow at the top to hang it with.
Enjoy your fun new message board. :)

Our DIY this month is a fun way to package gift cards, jewelry, or other small gifts. Pillow boxes work great for this and there are so many pretty cardstock paper designs to chose from. Here's what you'll need: scissors, glue, bone folder, circular lid or pattern, and one sheet of 12x12 cardstock
Fold back both sides, one overlapping the other, to the desired width. Just line up the top and bottom edges of the paper to keep your fold straight. Run a line of glue along one side and glue the overlapping side down to it.
Next, center your lid or circle pattern onto the top edge of your paper. The smaller the circle, the deeper and shorter your box will be. This box is about 5.5 inches wide and I usually use a lid that is 6.5-8.5 inches in diameter for this size.
Using the pointed end of your bone folder, score along the edge of the lid. Do this at the top and bottom of your paper and cut along the score lines. Then line the lid up the other way to the corners of your box, so that outer curve is going in toward the center of your box. Score along the lid. Do this 4 times; on both sides of your box, on the top and the bottom.
Next, carefully fold in along your score line, starting with the seamed side of your box first.
Fold in all sides.
Finally, decorate with ribbons and tags :)
We hope your summer is going great!
